چکیده
Two men (whom we will call A and B) are captured and held in separate cells where they cannot communicate. The warden visits both cells and explains the rules to each of them the same way: If neither prisoner gives evidence against the other, then the warden can only hold the prisoners for a year each. If both prisoners give evidence against the other, then the warden will hold both in prison for 10 years. If one prisoner decides to give evidence but the other one doesn’t, then the cooperative prisoner will go free, but the implicated prisoner gets 25 years. Solution: There is a single dominating strategy (and dominated strategy) for both players, but it is not the one you might hope for: both players will defect.

Introduction to Quantum Fields in Curved Spacetime and the Hawking Effect
These notes introduce the subject of quantum field theory in curved spacetime and some of its applications and the questions they raise. Topics include particle creation in time-dependent metrics, quantum origin of primordial perturbations, Hawking effect, the trans-Planckian question, and Hawking radiation on a lattice. Based on lectures given at the CECS School on Quantum Gravity in Valdivia,...
متن کاملReceptor for advanced glycation end products involved in circulating endothelial cells release from human coronary endothelial cells induced by C-reactive protein
Objective(s): This study was designed to investigate the effect of receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE), S100A12 and C-reactive protein (CRP) on the release of circulating endothelial cells (CECs) from human coronary artery endothelial cells (HCAECs). Materials and Methods: HCAECs were cultured in increasing concentration of CRP (0, 12.5, 25, 50μg/ml) or S100A12 protein (0, 4, 1...
متن کاملRole of Repeat Muscle Compartment Pressure Measurements in Chronic Exertional Compartment Syndrome of the Lower Leg
BACKGROUND The diagnostic gold standard for diagnosing chronic exertional compartment syndrome (CECS) is a dynamic intracompartmental pressure (ICP) measurement of the muscle. The potential role of a repeat ICP (re-ICP) measurement in patients with persistent lower leg symptoms after surgical decompression or with ongoing symptoms after an earlier normal ICP is unknown. PURPOSE To study wheth...
متن کاملMuscle oxygenation in Type 1 diabetic and non-diabetic patients with and without chronic compartment syndrome
BACKGROUND Type 1 diabetic patients and non-diabetic patients were referred for evaluation for chronic exertional compartment syndrome (CECS) based on clinical examination and complaints of activity-related leg pain in the region of the tibialis anterior muscle. Previous studies using near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) showed greater deoxygenation during exercise for CECS patients versus healthy...
متن کاملAdvances in Brief Cytogenetic Evidence That Circulating Epithelial Cells in Patients with Carcinoma Are Malignant
Purpose: Numerous studies of circulating epithelial cells (CECs) have been described in cancer patients, and genetic abnormalities have been well documented. However, with one exception in colorectal cancer, there has been no report of matching the genetic abnormalities in the CECs with the primary tumor. The purpose of this investigation was to determine (a) whether CECs in patients including ...
